Bump Day - Week 28

We've reached an important milestone...the third trimester. Now's the time when I get to start thinking about the actual delivery, what kind of pain med I want, what to pack in my hospital bag, and perineum massage (a future post topic?)

The Baby
Your baby has doubled her weight in the past month and is the size of a bag of flour. She now weighs almost 2 1/2 pounds. Her total length is nearly fifteen inches. Your baby's lungs are now capable of breathing air! This is big news. It means if the baby is born from now on, she'll be able to survive with less medical intervention. Your baby's main job right now is to put the finishing touches on major organ systems, such as her brain, lungs, and liver. As you can probably tell, she's also working on gaining layers of fat. Her body fat is about 2 to 3 percent. Your baby's eyes, which were covered by her eyelid folds at the sixth week of development, are capable of opening this week. Her sucking and swallowing skills are improving.

The Mommy - In theory
You're getting larger, and as you get larger, you become more uncomfortable. Your legs may ache or cramp, it's hard to get a good sleeping position, and the baby is big enough to give you some sharp kicks to the ribs! Remember that hot weather, standing for long periods of time, or low blood sugar can make you prone to dizziness and fainting. Drink water, and stay in the shade if you're pregnant in the summer.

The Mommy - For Real
I am totally pissed. I failed my 1hour glucose tolerance test, and for some reason it takes the doctor's office two weeks to notify me. I thought I was in the clear because I hadn't heard anything yet, but no such luck. I have to go next week for the three hour test which requires a 12 hour fast followed by a 4 hour visit to the hospital where I get my blood drawn three times. I have to take a day off work. The worst is now I'm paranoid that I've given myself gestational diabetes by eating too many Christmas cookies.

First, you look gorgeous! Almost makes me want to do it again:)
Second, try not to worry too much. I think often the worrying is worse then the tests. Let us know how you make out.

Oh no! That totally sucks you failed the 1 hour! And here I was all weekend feeding you frozen yogurt....oops! I wouldn't worry too much...from what I've seen in all my 3rd Tri lurking, most women who fail the first one pass the long one with no problem! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
