This morning was my three hour glucose tolerance test. Having not eaten anything since 7:30 last night, spending three hours in the lab was the last thing on my list of things I wanted to do that morning. Here's how I spent my time...
7:30 check-in
7:35 first blood draw to make sure I can even do the test..score 82 which is good.
7:40 finish slamming the gross orange glucola drink and head out to the waiting room to kill the first hour
8:10 Tom Petty's "Waiting is the Hardest part" plays on my i-pod...irony in it's sweetest form
8:15 Got to listen to the world's longest story from a 70 year old woman about how they didn't have ultrasounds when she had kids, so she had twins without knowing it. Seriously, that was the entire story but it took her about 30 minutes to tell it.
8:40 Burped up some orange glucola heartburn...disgusting
8:50 Saved from another long story from grandma by my second blood draw.
9:10 Dr. Oz told me I should buy organic apples and potatoes...thanks for the info Dr. Oz...how did you ever get your own 1-hour show.
9:50 Third blood draw kicked off by a dirty look from some lady because she apparently didn't think it was fair I got to go in before her. Look lady, I've been her waaaaaay longer than you, you just don't know it.
10:00 Rachel Ray comes on t.v and shows us how to make macaroni and cheese jalapeno poppers...not something I would traditionally salivate at, but in my current state, any food temptation is making me go all Pavlov's dog in the waiting room.
10:25 The baby decided it had waited patiently enough to be fed and decided to go on a 20 minute internal abuse rampage. That felt great on my sugar coated stomach.
10:49 Called Joe to let him know I was about to have my last blood draw and he'd better be ready to jump into a moving car if he wanted to go to lunch with me.
10:50 Last blood draw.
11:15 Enter the Bob Evan's and order Apple Pie Fries (delicious) eggs, sausage, home fried and pancakes. Ahhh....sweet gorging...the best part of my day.
I will hopefully get my results tomorrow, and hopefully that Bob Evans won't be my last carb-induced food fest for 10 weeks.

My first time
Saturday night, Joe and I were hurtin' for something to do...so we decided to do something we've never done before. We went to an OSU men's volleyball game.
It was pretty fun. It's free to get in, there isn't a crowd, and they sold the largest packs of Starbursts I've ever seen. All in all a good night.
Today we decided to get started on the last project we want to do in the house, remodeling our master bathroom.
We've decided to do this in two phases, phase one being the floor and the vanity, stage two being the shower. Here's our goal:
1. Demo and plan this weekend.
1b. Convince Joe to paint one night after work....this is my goal, he would be happy not painting or waiting. I think it makes sense to just do it now when we have nothing in there. We'll see if I'm successful. I'd do it myself if it weren't one of those things frowned upon for pregnant ladies.
2. Lay floor next weekend.
3. Install vanity and sinks the weekend after that.
Three weekends is not a bad timeline. If everything goes to plan, we should have a great start on our bathroom by mid February.

Bump Day - Week 28
We've reached an important milestone...the third trimester. Now's the time when I get to start thinking about the actual delivery, what kind of pain med I want, what to pack in my hospital bag, and perineum massage (a future post topic?)
The Baby
Your baby has doubled her weight in the past month and is the size of a bag of flour. She now weighs almost 2 1/2 pounds. Her total length is nearly fifteen inches. Your baby's lungs are now capable of breathing air! This is big news. It means if the baby is born from now on, she'll be able to survive with less medical intervention. Your baby's main job right now is to put the finishing touches on major organ systems, such as her brain, lungs, and liver. As you can probably tell, she's also working on gaining layers of fat. Her body fat is about 2 to 3 percent. Your baby's eyes, which were covered by her eyelid folds at the sixth week of development, are capable of opening this week. Her sucking and swallowing skills are improving.
The Mommy - In theory
You're getting larger, and as you get larger, you become more uncomfortable. Your legs may ache or cramp, it's hard to get a good sleeping position, and the baby is big enough to give you some sharp kicks to the ribs! Remember that hot weather, standing for long periods of time, or low blood sugar can make you prone to dizziness and fainting. Drink water, and stay in the shade if you're pregnant in the summer.
The Mommy - For Real
I am totally pissed. I failed my 1hour glucose tolerance test, and for some reason it takes the doctor's office two weeks to notify me. I thought I was in the clear because I hadn't heard anything yet, but no such luck. I have to go next week for the three hour test which requires a 12 hour fast followed by a 4 hour visit to the hospital where I get my blood drawn three times. I have to take a day off work. The worst is now I'm paranoid that I've given myself gestational diabetes by eating too many Christmas cookies.

Welcome back to Civilization
I have missed you all...I have tons of blog reading to catch up on, and plenty to share myself. Our internet has been out for over a week. The hubs finally got so fed up he actually threw the modem against the desk and broke it so there was nothing he could do and we just had to wait for AT&T to send us a new one. But I'm back now baby! After my lovely weekend with visiting my BF Ems in KC, and a late returning flight, I'm exhausted, so I will update my weekend and how the baby is doing tomorrow.
It feels so good to be back!

What will my baby be?
Joe and I decided long ago that we would wait and be surprised at the gender of our baby. We just want healthy baby, and we'll be happy. When you decided to go this route, you get to experience many people "predicting" what your baby will be, most predictions based on Old Wives Tales. So I did a little research...and here's what all those tales predict my baby will be.
1. How you carry the baby - if it's high you'll have a girl, if it's low, a boy.
I'm carrying pretty low.
2. Drano - If you pee in a cup of drano and it turns green it's a girl, if blue a boy.
I'm too afraid of the resulting chemical compound when mixing urine and drano to try this one out.
3. Heartbeats - If it's above 140 it's a girl, below and it's a boy.
Last time we had it checked it was 140 exactly. Hmmm...
4. Cravings - If you need the sweets, it's a girl, if sour/salty is your thing, it's a boy.
I've been all about the sweets.
5. Husband's weight gain - If he sympathy gains with you, it's a girl, if not, it's a boy.
Joe still has to motivation to work out, so he's staying about the same.
6. Ring on a String - If you hold your wedding ring on a string above your belly and it spins in a circle, it's a girl...if it sways back and forth, it's a boy.
Mine spun around a few times.
7. The Mayans - If you add the mother's age at conception and year of conception and it's even you have a girl, odd and it's a boy.
27 plus 10 is 37...odd
8. Morning Sickness...If you have it, it's girl, if not...boy.
Not a lick for me.
9. Leg hair growth - If your hair grows faster, it's a boy...stays the same and it's girl.
While my frequency of shaving has dropped considerably, the growth has remained constant. Good thing I never grew it very fast in the first place.
10. Foot temperature - If they are colder than before you were pregnant, it's a boy..if not, it's a girl.
My feet are always cold, even in the summer. So there hasn't been any change there.
So if you were keeping tabs, we have 4 predictions for a boy, three for a girl, and two that did nothing.
What do all of you predict it will be?

I need some tips...
This Saturday I am headed to Cincinnati for the Bengals playoff game! WooHoo. Bad news, it'll be about 8 degrees during the game. I have my usual layering and hand warmers, but I was wondering if you all had any other stay warm tips. I am concerned about being it that frigid of weather for so long, especially for the baby's sake. I asked the doc about it, and was reassured that the baby will be fine, but I still want to take some extra precautions.
So I reach out to all of you...how do you stay warm when you have to be in the cold for a long time?

Whew...
Who knew that going back to work would be so hard after two weeks off. I'm used to being tired after my schedule changes for two weeks, but the pregnancy adds a whole new dimension. I've decided I need to invent a way for me to be an effective teacher while sitting in my desk chair, because standing all day is going to get the best of me soon.
Today was the first time I felt the baby kicking while teaching. I was just up there yapping away about inequalities, when BAM, I took a hit in the gut. I'm not at the point yet where the students can tell, but I bet at the end they will totally freak out when they see my stomach moving in the middle of class.
I will leave you with an actual conversation I had with a student today...
Me: How was your break?
Student: It was good, how was yours?
Me: Very relaxing, thanks.
Student: Did you have your baby?
Hmmmm.......
