Match Up
The first step to saving money by couponing is to match the weekly grocery store ads to coupons that you have available. This is a pretty common sense step, but I know that I used to just go shopping and if I had a coupon that matched a sale, perfect...if not, oh well.
For example, the Giant Eagle Ad for this week had Hamburger Helper for sale 10 for $10. I had clipped a coupon that was 75 cents off three. So you buy three for a total of $3.00, the coupon doubles for a total of $1.50 off so you end up paying $1.50 for three boxes (i.e 50 cents each). The original price tag was $2 per box which means I saved 75%
Now it takes some time to look at the ads and match sales to the coupons you have available. This is why I've done a little looking and there are tons of resources available on line. Here's my go to site. This website matches all current ads at lots of stores to recent available coupons and even helps you find online coupons for more savings.
By the way...check out my savings over on the left. I've made it over $100 already...only two weeks in!
