I am Number Four

Every year the 8th grade Language Arts teachers at my school pick a high interest book that they read aloud to their students. They read about twice a week and the students really get into it. It's a great way to help instill the love of reading in the kids. Well it just so happened that the book they picked this year had it's movie version open yesterday.
So as a treat we arranged to take the kids after school to an opening day showing. It was a hit! We had about 150 kids, which is over 50%. I went along to chaperone and it was a lot of fun. The best part was after it was over the kids overwhelmingly voted that the book was better than the movie. It was so endearing that they had this surge of love for the book. It was also heart melting to find out that this was the first time many of our students had ever been to a movie. Given the poverty level of our school, and the outrageous cost of going to the movie, I can't say I'm surprised. It was such a good feeling when those students showed such an appreciation that they got to experience something most normal teenagers already had.
A big "Way to Go" shout out to the lovely LA teachers that helped these kids have such a great day.

Sounds like such an awesome experience! It has to be so fulfilling to knowing they enjoyed the reading that much.
