Bring on the swine

So our school has the first confirmed case of the swine flu in a school in Franklin County. We got that great news after school today. I guess it's not that big of a deal. The board of Health says they don't need to close us down. The student stayed home while they were sick, so we should be okay. I just love when our school gets honored with the chance to be first at something.

Going in the pool

On that last day of school we take the eighth graders to the pool. It's a fun way to spend the last day with the kids. Apparently there has been a tradition of throwing the new teacher in the pool. I've been at Gahanna 3 years and have never been in. My first year, a girl who couldn't swim decided to jump off the diving board, and almost drowned. Last year there were tornado warnings, so we didn't go. Some of my fellow teachers have decided I'm still due my baptism, and have been telling the kids they needed to get me. All week long, kids have been taunting me about how I'm going down, and I'd better watch out. I guess I'll know to wear my suit under my clothes that day, or bring something to change into.

We had dress as nerds day last week. I really get into these dress up days. Here's a great picture of me.

11 more days

So I know many people will not sympathize with the complaints I am about to issue, but being that this is my blog, everyone will have to deal. It is unbelievable that we still have 11 days of school left. Never have I come back from Memorial day and had this many days of school left. I don't know who decided on this schedule but it really blows. The worst part about it is the kids have been acting like school is out since May 15th. How, oh how will I make it another 11 days?

Green Thumb

Today Joe and I ventured into the world of landscaping. We dug out the old weed looking bushes from the front and replaced them with much nice bushes donated to us by Troy, a guy Joe works with. On our trip to get top soil, we also picked up some various flowers. After a couple of hours of work we have the bequtiful new front landscaping seen below.

In the back I planted some cucumber and green bean seeds, and today when I went out to water, I saw two little bean sprouts. Who knows...maybe I'll like this gardening thing after all.

Columbus Clippers

Last Saturday we checked out the new Huntington Bank ballpark. I have to say, for a minor league team, the park is really nice. The weather was great, and the Clippers won, so all and all I'd have to say I enjoyed myself. The highlight of the evening was venturing to a whole new bar. Betty's (not the one on high street) is this great little hole in the wall. They had darts, and a rocking jukebox, especially the Journey (Don't Stop Believing is still the greatest song ever). Here are some picture from the evening.

Although he looks like he's about to fall over, Adam is not drunk...he's just really excited to be holding onto Chris.

Joe and I with the Huntington sign lit up.

Chris was bummed cause his Red Sox lost...and Joe put a peanut in his beer.

We had pretty great seats.

It's Tricky, Tricky, Tricky

Last week was Teacher appreciation week at scho0l. One of the events they has was decade day, where you dressed in either 60's, 70's or 80's. The eighth grade teachers were assigned the 8's. Since we had already done 80's day at Halloween, I decided to go a new route. Here I am in all my track suit glory.

All my single ladies

Tonight I got to experience a rare treat of married life, a night in the house alone. Occasionally it's nice to have the house to yourself. I got to watch all my DVR shows that Joe hates. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I took up the whole couch. The cats were able to love me best without Joe getting jealous. I thought about doing some chores, but chose not to. If I'm ever asked for one piece of advice for marriage, I think it will be to take advantage of your single nights. It gives you time to appreciate yourself, which allows you to appreciate the one you love more.
